Case Studies Buoy Bowls
As stories go, they don't get much better. A friend called to say that he was leaving his construction management job to start a food truck to make "these healthy blended fruit bowls I had on a surf trip." Don't doubt a man's vision. 3 years and many awards later (Including B.O.B. best food truck in The Triangle all 3 years.) Buoy Bowls has 4 trucks, a line of frozen açaí, plans for brick and mortar, and verticals in the works. Their "whatever it takes" attitude has made Buoy Bowls a dream client. { It's Ah-Sigh-Ee, Y'all! }
The creation of this brand had to be fun and fresh. Working from the ground up and a strict budget initially, deciding the correct marketing avenues to pursue was key. With no competing concepts in the area initially, revisiting and readressing demographic has been very integral to the success of Buoy Bowls' brand.
Overall the client's vision had a great deal to do with the outcome of this identity. The imagery in the mark works as both a buoy in the ocean and a spoon in one of their bowls, with the purple swirl either ripples or symbolic of being blended. The colors in the mark were chosen to be bright and noticeable, while also representative of açaí.
The Buoy Bowls site delights visitors with subtle details and surprising interactivity. It provides information that customers need while showing off the company’s capabilities in an all-around enjoyable user experience.
The goal is to stand out. A combination of their design elements such as color, textures, and typography were used to further the Buoy Bowls branding on their food trucks. Scale was kept in mind to ensure visibility on the road. The bowls are great, the look's great, and people are asking, "Where is the purple truck?!"
These dual-use brochures were created to either drop off at businesses that may be interested in a scheduled appearance, or as menus for customers to take with them.
Another example of their drive and dedication, Buoy Bowls created their own line of Açaí to use on the trucks for all of the bowls they make. Keeping taste, sustainabiltiy, and fair trade in mind, they scoured the far-reaches for the best possible Açaí to make their bowls.
